The Golden Rendezvous

The Golden Rendezvous – Alistair MacLean (Fontana, 1972)

A battered old Fontana paperback from the days when thrillers smelled of tobacco, salt water and cheap paper. MacLean does what MacLean does best: a cargo ship, a shady crew, a touch of political intrigue, and a pile of gold that everyone would kill for. Throw in storms, sabotage, and a hero who’s tougher than the binding on this copy, and you’ve got yourself a proper 1970s nail-biter.

Condition? Let’s just say this book has sailed more voyages than the ship in the story. Creased spine, yellowed pages, maybe a coffee ring or two—it’s lived a life, but it still reads like dynamite. Perfect if you like your thrillers salty, scruffy, and unapologetically Crappy Old Books.
