One, Two, Buckle My Shoe (1940) — Agatha Christie
Collins Crime Club
Offered by Crappy Old Books
A routine trip to the dentist turns deadly when Hercule Poirot’s practitioner is found shot moments after the great detective leaves the chair. Suicide, says the official line. Murder, says Poirot—especially when other patients from that morning begin to vanish, reappear, or turn up inconveniently dead. As the nursery rhyme ticks onward—one, two… three, four…—the case tightens around a powerful banker with enemies, a tangle of false identities, and a killer who counts on misdirection as neatly as Christie counts her clues.
Expect razor-clean plotting, sly political undercurrents, and Poirot in peak moustache-twirling form. A classic Golden Age puzzle where every appointment card, alibi, and buckle matters.
Why you’ll want this:
-
Prime-period Poirot with a body in a locked surgery and a rhyme as roadmap
-
Twists worthy of a second read (and a third)
-
Essential for Christie collectors and anyone who likes their clues fair and their villains crafty
Crappy Old Books: proudly peddling the venerable, the foxed, and the fiendishly clever.
I have repaired the bottom spine and reglued the book block in. Its OK, but the first blacnk page is a bit twisted. Its only slight, but its better than falling to bits as it was and the book is now good for all general occasions, even for less fussy collectors.
