Credos and Curios (1969) by James Thurber – Penguin Books Edition
Witty. Weird. Wonderful. And slightly worn — just like all the best things in life.
This gloriously cranky collection from James Thurber, master of the absurd and accidental philosopher of mid-century America, brings together essays, doodles, and brilliant bits that ponder everything from miscommunication to mortality. Originally published posthumously, Credos and Curios is Thurber at his most reflective (but still deeply ridiculous).
This vintage Penguin paperback has seen a few decades and smells like a library in a thunderstorm — which, honestly, is half the charm. Pages may be yellowed, corners may be curled, but the wit is as sharp as ever.
Perfect for fans of dry humor, clever sketches, and people who prefer their books slightly pre-loved.
Crappy Old Books: Unearthing literary gems you didn’t know you needed (in questionable condition since forever).
Fair copy. I fixed the covere where you can see the slight fold to bottom right as it was delicate and was on the verge of detaching, but I applied a layer of paper to the back of it with glue and its now a very robust finish.
