Repair: Rebinding

Like many of its time the binding deteriorated leaving only loose pages, which I glued back together.

This is a common repair and doesn't take as long as you might think. Essentially the binding of the spine deteriorated leaving a clump of loose pages. I realigned them and put them in a press and then glued alone the spine and when that was dried I added some paper along the spine to bind to it and further reinforce it, but also to give the cover something to adhere to as the spine section was quite undulating. Then I stuck the cover back on. Its not perfect as the page edges are not flush. I could have reground them but its not worth the time really. I could also have committed more time before to getting them flush but that would have taken time and trying to remove all the old spine binding material. So its a sort of compromise. I think its quite a reasonable compromise on getting a low value book back into a reasonably usable condition.
